![]() If a file lacks a type, the application may not let you open it. ![]() One of the most compelling pieces of Mac OS Internet software ever produced, the version 9 series includes the following major new features: Interarchy now supports a new SSH-based transfer protocol. Interarchy 9 requires Mac OS X v10.4.11 or later and costs $40 (upgrades from previous version are $30). Many applications filter their Open dialogs by file type. Interarchy, formerly known as Anarchie, is, perhaps, the most popular Mac FTP client - but today it is much more than an FTP tool. It also supports plug-in architecture for compressing files, running scripts and restarting servers It ties in well with both Amazon and Rackspace's cloud file hosting services, allowing you to transfer and manage data in the cloud. If that isn't a deal breaker for you there's much to love in Interarchy 9. Interarchy is an advanced file transfer app that supports FTP, SFTP, Webdav, S3 and the new, very fast iFTP. Interarchy 9 is a slick and very fast FTP application, but it still lacks one feature that keeps me tied to Transmit: split pane windows with a local file browser on one side and remote on the other. As the release notes put it: “if Apple ever get their act together and finish Mac OS X's resolution independence support Interarchy should be ready.” ![]() It may not be high on the list of things you're looking for in an FTP program, but Interarchy 9 features support for resolution independence, one of the much touted aspects of Leopard that didn't quite make the cut. Another nice touch is that Interarchy 9 will reopen your last session at startup, restoring any open connections (you can disable this feature in the preferences pane if it's not to your liking).
