The textures and capabilities are the same across the devices, and the user interface is similar, but the layout differences are necessary due to the available “real estate”. The tutorials are detailed yet written and illustrated on a level that is easy to follow. Stackables used to be a separate app for iPhone and iPad, but that was changed in an earlier release. Follow me through the Stackables app, in its most recent 3.0 release, and see if you don’t agree. Mextures is also flexible, but the user interface is not as simple in my eyes, and the textures cannot compare to those in Stackables. ![]() Distressed FX has some beautiful textures built in, but it is not as flexible as Stackables. I’ve covered several of these, including Distressed FX, Grungetastic and Mextures. The texture library in Distressed FX is particularly tuned to landscape and still life photography. Stackables is a texture app, or grunge app. Distressed FX provides a wide library of textures and overlays you can used with your iPhone images. Over the next few weeks we will see examples of using Stackables to finish or to create an image from start to finish. But today’s app, Stackables, is such a joy to work with that I find myself using it to finish a great many of my images, and even start a few. This app provides a host of textures and filters that can be applied to make subtle tonal changes and give your image a moody or nostalgic feel. Rad will share how he creates images with enhanced tone and texture using Distressed FX Plus. And I’ve raved over apps by Pixite and JixiPix. In this webinar for iPhone and iPad, Rad share’s two favorite apps: Distressed FX Plus and Image Blender. It’s also no secret that I find Snapseed to be indispensable for quick, quality edits. There are not nearly as many textures in DistressedFX as there are in Mextures or Scratchcam, but they are of such high quality that DistressedFX is in constant use on my iDevices. Place texture 13 from the 14 Distressed Ink Overlays pack above the lettering and Create a Clipping Mask. The idea for this app started as a collection of textures created by Cheryl Tarrant, which proved so popular that it was turned into an app by We Are Here Limited. In this category are Grungetastic, which I’ve already written about, and today’s app, DistressedFX. But there’s a different category of grunge that has a more artistic quality.
